Overview

The Conjuring: Last Rites is the fourth installment in the main Conjuring series and the ninth film in the Conjuring Universe. This film concludes the story of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. Set in 1986, five years after the events of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, the Warrens are drawn out of retirement to investigate one of their most chilling cases: the haunting of the Smurl family in West Pittston, Pennsylvania.

The Smurl Haunting

The Smurl family reported a series of disturbing supernatural events in their duplex home during the 1970s and 1980s, including foul odors, disembodied voices, and violent attacks. The Warrens concluded that four spirits, including a demon, were present in the house. This case gained widespread attention and remains one of the most controversial investigations in the Warrens' career.

Emotional Farewell

Director Michael Chaves describes Last Rites as the darkest and most intense installment in the series, focusing on a demon with a personal vendetta. The film also explores the Warrens' relationship with their now-grown daughter, Judy, portrayed by Mia Tomlinson, adding emotional depth to the narrative.

Final Thoughts

As the concluding chapter of the Warrens' cinematic journey, The Conjuring: Last Rites promises to deliver a blend of psychological terror and heartfelt storytelling. Fans can expect a poignant and terrifying finale that honors the series' roots.
